Father's Day 2014

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society.
For over half a century, I was blessed with a loving and caring father, one whom I can share my success, happy and sad moments.  It has been 3 years now that I'm without him at my side.  I missed him very much and more so on this day when many are celebrating this day with their fathers.
This year the sad feeling is even more intense because it is also the first year my two nieces are missing their beloved Papa, my youngest brother Roddy who passed away on last Christmas.  I can understand the feeling of loss and sadness on this day when you recalled that he was still around last Father's Day celebrating the occasion, too.
Anyway, for other fathers that are still around, their children will continue to celebrate this day with fun and enjoying the best food in town or at home and other gifts.
My nephews and us celebrated Father's Day with their father, my younger brother on the eve.  We had a sumptuous steamboat dinner at Old House Restaurant and I brought along some cute Magic Custard Cupcakes too.
It's a good steamboat dinner which we all enjoyed very much but deep down in our hearts we do missed the fathers that had passed on and wish that it would be so good if they are still around.
This steamboat is quite different from the usual, in that the soup  is very tasty.  A whole garoupa fish is separated into fish head which has been deep fried until crispy and added to the steamboat soup.  Whereas the fleshy part is deboned and sliced.  You have to finish eating the fried fish head before adding the other fresh ingredients to cook.

The other ingredients for this steamboat are good quality fish maw, fresh big prawns, squids, fish cakes, lots of vegetables and the most welcome meatballs that are made from minced meat, pine nuts and water chestnuts together with seasonings.  We expected to be given crabs and clams but were told that these are side others which has to be placed beforehand.
Overall, it is a nice steamboat dinner the family enjoyed.

Father's Day 2013

Father's Day this year falls on the 16th of June.  This is the second year, I'm passing the day without my beloved Papa who had passed away on 23/10/2011.
I have never imagined this day to be a day full of memories of my Papa whom I missed very, very much.  It does bring tears to my eyes whenever I think of him and even at this moment when I'm writing this post.
He had been the pillar of strength to the family.  I am always so proud and confident knowing he had cared, loved me and so concerned about my well being all these years.   I can't think of anybody else in the world that loved me more other than him.  It's so hard to express this feeling but my heart is always heavy whenever the thought that he is no longer with us.
I missed him so much until I don't even mind leaving this world anytime with the hope that I can meet him in the Netherworld.  I always felt so safe with him around anywhere and anytime.
To my dear Papa, just want to say I missed you so much.  You seem so alive in my memories of you. Miss you, miss you very much on this Father's  Day.

My Brothers's Father's Day 2012

This is the first year after more than 1/2 a decade that I'm passing this day without my Pa [he passed away 8 months ago].

Anyway, my brothers are celebrating this day as fathers to their children who treated them and all of us in the family to a dinner at the Old House Restaurant in Georgetown.

This is a very unique restaurant where most if its deco are Chinese arts and antiques.  The restaurant owner and cook is a prominent businessman and a 'Datuk'.

This is the second time we had our dinner here, the first was on Mother's Day.  There is no fixed menu for you to select. You just need to inform how paxs and whether it is a course dinner or ala carte meal.

So here are the dishes served.  I believed these must be the restaurant's signature dishes.

We didn't had an 8 course dinner as the servings were aplenty.  For every course, everyone can have more than 1 serving.

The family really enjoyed the dinner and happy as this is also the first time my 2 nephews have treated us to such sumptous dinner using their  well earned income after completing their studies.  Its very thoughful of them to gather the family members together to celebrate Father's Day.
